MURFREESBORO — It was a reversal of fortunes — and emotions — as University School of Jackson defeated Webb School of Knoxville 4-0 Wednesday in the Division II-A boys team finals Wednesday at Old Fort Park.
The Spartans had beaten USJ for the state crown the past three seasons, and were sad to see their title run come to a screeching halt.
“It’s amazing. We’ve come up short to Webb three or four years now, and it’s just amazing that we came out and won it this year,” said junior Cade Reasons, who beat Webb freshman Ohm Sharma 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.
Webb’s quiet disappointment was the opposite of USJ’s celebrations.
“We all fought pretty hard. Not all us played to the best of our ability, but we really tried our best. It just wasn’t enough. Second place isn’t what we wanted, but it isn’t that bad,” Webb’s Sharma said.
