The January 2016 Edition

Brad Paisley Inspires Us to Aspire for a Sweet ’16

BRAD QUOTEI thought this quote from country music star Brad Paisley would be a good way – an inspirational way – to start my blog for the new year.

“Tomorrow is the First Blank Page of a 365-Page Book. Write a good one.”

A friend posted it on Facebook at mid-afternoon of the last day of 2015, and I have spent this New Year’s Eve watching college football and thinking about what Brad’s message means to me.

It’s hard to believe 2016 will arrive in about three hours; what a fast year it has been. We all make New Year’s Resolutions, be they about health, wealth, love, whatever. Some are easier to keep than others, but I am determined to take Brad’s message to heart during this coming year.

Resolution No. 1 – and the only one – is to complete the sequel for my true-crime thriller Vendetta Stone. And while I can’t yet give you a publication date, I am happy to report that the book is nearly finished. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, as the old saying goes.

Turn to Stone picks up where Vendetta Stone ended and will follow Jackson Stone and his friends from Nashville through Georgia and the Carolinas.

That’s the only resolution I have for the coming year, and I will work every day to make it happen sooner rather than later. I’ll be sharing details as soon as possible, because the editing process make take time. Quality is important, and I won’t rush just to get another book on the shelves.

I do have several other writing commitments, including coverage of some college basketball and other sports, but I will spend the bulk of my time getting the sequel finished, and less time doing promotional events that have dominated the last couple of years.

I do have several events lined up for the coming year, however, the first major one being the Dahlonega Literary Festival on March 12. I am also scheduled for a signing in Indianapolis on May 28 at Indy Reads Books from noon until 3 p.m. I’ll be in the Hoosier State that weekend to attend my first Indy 500 – the 100th running at the Brickyard of the greatest spectacle in racing. If you have family and friends in the area, please let them know the date.

So in the spirit of some of the college basketball games I’ll be covering, let me close by saying I’m looking forward to a Sweet ’16, and I hope you are, too.

It all starts by keeping Brad Paisley’s inspirational words close to your own heart for the coming year:

“Tomorrow is the First Blank Page of a 365-Page Book. Write a good one.”

As always, thanks for reading.
