MURFREESBORO — Before the season began, Catholic High School volleyball coach Brent Carter outlined a five-step plan for winning the first state championship in school history.
Step five is Friday.
The Irish (29-11) posted a tense 3-0 victory over Sullivan South on Thursday at Middle Tennessee State University’s Murphy Center to reach the Class AA state championship match at 2:30 p.m. Eastern.
Catholic again will have to beat Sullivan South, which came out of the losers’ bracket.
“We’ve talked all year about our five stepping stones to a state title,” Carter said after the 27-25, 26-24, 25-22 win over Sullivan South in the semifinals. “We’re where we expected to be.”
