MURFREESBORO — If Farragut High School’s volleyball team is going to claim its first state title, the road is going to go through the state’s most decorated program.
It’s the same difficult path the Lady Admirals traveled last season, and this year the challenge looks just as daunting.
Two-time defending champion Brentwood, with 10 championships to its credit, romped to a 25-11, 25-21, 25-15 victory over Farragut in the second round of the Class AAA state volleyball tournament at Middle Tennessee State’s Alumni Memorial Gymnasium on Wednesday.
A lengthy power outage at Murphy Center forced TSSAA officials to move the match to a new venue after a nearly three-hour delay. The change in venue didn’t stop Farragut’s loss to the Lady Bruins.
“It’s been a long day,” Farragut coach Susan Davidson said. “There were a lot of obstacles. We’ve been in the gym 12 hours and we came out flat. Taking nothing away from Brentwood, but now we’ve just got to work our way back.”
